BRISC - Batu Batu Reef Island Study Centre

Written by Wild Asia on 19 Sep 2011 with 0 comments. Be the first!

BRISC is a unique partnership with Batu Batu Resort, a private tourism enterprise to create opportunities for learning about local marine resources and the pressures on them. BRISC is located on Pulau Tengah, off the east coast of Johor.

A non-for-profit study centre, BRISC aims to promote marine stewardship by gathering local knowledge and building community relations with local fishermen community, government and other stakeholders. BRISC is unique as it is the first privately owned study centre in Malaysia and provides the perfect place to conduct marine studies in a "protected environment." We hope to show that knowledge acquired can enhance responsible tourism in the area, better protect the marine resources, and prove that sustainable management indeed benefit all.

For current updates on the shaping and making of BRISC, hop onto Batu-Batu's blog.
