Training and Capacity Building

Written by Wild Asia on 22 Sep 2011

We have built up a reputation for providing practical training solutions for the plantation industry. Many of our courses have been adapted for plantation managers, researchers and decision makers. We are keen to support the whole supply chain, from buyers to producers, to source and implement better standards to meet the sustainability standards defined by RSPO.

RSPO-endorsed Courses

Since Wild Asia and ProForest (UK) finalized a partnership in 2008, we have worked together to design a number of small-group courses that are practical and interactive, with the aim of accelerating the learning experience of our students. These courses are all endorsed by the RSPO and have been some of the first global training in RSPO, the requirements of the certification system and deeper understanding of the environmental and social dimensions of the standards. Below are RSPO-endorsed courses we offer:

RSPO-endorsed Lead Auditor Course (together with ProForest)

The SSP Lead Auditor Course on RSPO P&C is a professional auditing course and is designed for auditors within RSPO approved Certification Bodies to meet the RSPO auditor requirements. The course is also open to internal auditors or organizations providing advisory in RSPO. Course modules will cover understanding of the RSPO P&C for both plantations and supply chains, with a focus on requirements for auditing, planning and the certification systems. The course includes a practical audit component and exams. It is structured as a 3-days indoor workshop, 1-day practical audit exercise in an oil palm estate and 1-day written exam.

Interpretation & Implementation of the RSPO Principle & Criteria

This 5-day course aims to provide practical guidance for oil palm growers, buyers, sellers and other interested stakeholders to address the most challenging requirements of the RSPO Principles & Criteria. The training course will incorporate examples from National Interpretations and case studies. It will provide participants with a deeper understanding of the key social and environmental issues facing the oil palm industry today.

Open Courses

Independently, we have also developed a suite of training modules related to social and environmental aspects related to RSPO. These courses have been adapted and conducted for companies at the Corporate, Manager, and for the Workforce. Some of our open courses include:

Biodiversity Management Training

The 3-day intensive course will equip planters and plantation managers with theoretical and practical knowledge on how growing and harvesting oil palm affect the overall environmental ecosystems in the surrounding areas. It will give you an understanding of how to integrate environmental concerns into standard operational practices and it will teach you how to apply adaptive management techniques in an environmental context alongside other plantation activities.

The course will also give you a number of simple methods for monitoring and documenting the positive environmental impacts as a result of incorporating such concerns into plantation management. A field trip on the second day to ensure that the training course is kept practical and related to the work in the estates.
