Social enterprise
Wild Asia is a social enterprise, a legal organization aiming to inspire and create positive social and environmental change. Unlike charities, we do not depend on donations but derive our income through the services we provide and the products we sell.
Although we do receive grants for our work, our core income is derived by providing advisory or consulting services:
By working under the banner of global sustainability programmes, like Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), we assist companies understand, check progress and develop solutions to meet these requirements.
As an experienced team of social and environmental experts, we also find ourselves providing consulting services to help NGOs, businesses and corporations, to assess, research, plan, and implement innovative environmental and conservation programmes.
Finally, what we learn we share in the form of training workshops or programmes that help build capacity of corporations from decision makers to the "factory floor" in order to help realise a long term programme towards sustainability.
Profits for Good
As a social enterprise we combine our business objectives with our social mission. Rather than solely having a profit-making goal like any other consultancy firm, our products and services are geared towards our mission of Promoting Change, Inspiring People, and Engaging Businesses.
For a start, we've been operating on a formula where 75% of our annual profits are ploughed back into the company to invest in our team, to further our mission, and to support our initiatives such as our Responsible Tourism Initiative, or our Natural Corridor Initiative.
However, we would like to find other ways to cover some of these costs so that these hard-earned profits can go even further. For example, running more effective campaigns, finding innovative solutions, and giving life to new projects. That is where our call for partnerships come in.
Maximising Impact not Shareholder Returns
Since we began, we have maintained our profit-distribution formula. While 75% of our profits go back into our programmes and work, the remaining 25% form a bonus incentive scheme, shared amongst all our people. We developed this reward scheme to recognise staff, dedicated advisors and associates who had given us discounted rates, endured lower salaries and worked hard to ensure our projects succeed.
So behold, our simple model. But we are also always evolving and exploring ways we can further our social mission, rather than maximizing shareholder returns.
