Volunteer & Intern with Wild Asia

We are always on the lookout for skilled, dedicated and independent individuals to help us build our programmes! We would welcome working with more experienced people so if you have a few months to spare, why not volunteer or intern with Wild Asia? We take on a limited pool of volunteers but we are committed to making your experience worthwhile and meaningful.

Volunteering with Wild Asia gives you the opportunity to work alongside a dedicated team promoting social and environmental understanding of our natural world. Wild Asia is unique in that we strive to engage both the business and local communities to bring about an awareness and commitment to conservation. We work with a range of partners, are involved in both environmental and social conservation, and are active in different sectors such as tourism, plantations and forestry. We are a small team and there is an opportunity for shared learning and for making meaningful contributions.

What would you gain from this programme?

  • Learn about the complexities of getting things done in Asia!
  • Develop your skills in conservation - conservation is a team effort and many skills maketh a good conservationist!
  • Gain an insight into conservation issues from people who are passionate about their work.
  • Work on real projects for your degree or diploma that could actually make a difference on the ground.

What skills do you need?

We have learnt that it takes all sorts to drive conservation ideas - there is no fixed background that we are looking for - so consider applying if you have a science, finance, marketing, humanities or arts background. If you would like to be involved with Wild Asia, send us your application. Remember, we not only work with biologists, but over the years our projects have also brought us in contact with IT specialists, designers, writers, graphic artists, and filmmakers.

What we hope to see in you

  • the ability to work independently (and with limited supervision)
  • a strong command of spoken and written English
  • the ability to use many common PC applications

Scope of work at Wild Asia

  • Researching a problem or issue and helping us strengthen our knowledge-base.
  • Helping our partners to develop nurseries and a native tree-planting programme.
  • Producing short videos, podcasts or photo-journalism stories that communicate what we do.
  • Being sent out to work with village communities to document their natural landscapes, knowledge or products.
  • Writing features and conducting interviews that help people understand the issues that impact our wild places.
