About Wild Asia's Plant-a-Tree Programme

by Wild Asia

Due to the rapid increase in urban development, wildlife are being threatened and driven away from their natural habitats on a daily basis. Wild Asia's Natural Corridor Initiative (NCI) tackles this problem by enhancing our natural landscapes and providing our wildlife with more room to live.

Although protected areas currently exist, we feel that they're not enough. Beyond endangered wild species such as elephants, tigers or rhinos; thousands of other species survive outside of protected areas.

The quality of our environment, be it urban or rural areas, is dependent on these species. That's why we're working with private land-owners to secure land for the purposes of creating more space for wildlife to roam. With the NCI, we hope to see more wild spaces in our neighborhoods, cities and rural areas.

As part of our vision to create more natural corridors, we conceptualised the Wild Asia Plant-a-Tree Programme.

Trees are long-term solutions for creating wild spaces. The idea is to plant trees that are favoured by local wildlife, grow fast, and self-propagate. Natural vegetation then allows for a speedy recovery of abandoned areas.

Through this programme, you can get involved by helping us raise funds through promotions, events or other activities. You can donate by purchasing a tree for a friend, loved one, or anyone looking to offset their carbon footprint.

We're deeply committed towards nurturing the young trees which have been planted. We form written partnerships with landowners and they in turn become our "Tree Hosts". Many of our trees are planted on land cared for by our Tree Hosts, so we can easily track the progress of the trees and provide you with annual updates on all trees planted!

Over and above tree-planting, the programme generates a host of other benefits:

Enhancing wild spaces

Trees are long-term solutions for creating wild spaces. The idea is to plant trees that are favored by local wildlife, are able to propagate themselves, or are fast-growing to allow abandoned areas to be re-covered with natural vegetation.

Education

A tree planting activity creates an opportunity to educate both adults and children on the role played by trees and the importance of natural areas. It educates people on the ecology and diversity of trees, as well as the many uses of trees by local people.

Reaching out to the community

Tree planting events are a great way of getting the community involved and bringing people together. People from all walks of life can participate - from those living nearby, to local government officials, and even leaders of local businesses.

Supporting community enterprises

Wild Asia is working to expand our reach by ensuring that any event we organize includes local businesses. We work with locals who have indigenous knowledge of trees. By expanding our network of nurseries, we provide them opportunities to gain a supplementary source of income from selling their tree saplings to donors.
