Wild Asia's New Year's Wish List

by Wild Asia

Wild Asia will be twelve in 2010! Thanks to our passionate team and committed partners, we've grown from a small organization to one running several successful projects. To continue our work in conservation, we need your help. Find out what we have planned for next year.

This year, we successfully carried out the Plant-a-Tree programme culminating in the highly publicized AMP Tree Party event, strengthened our monitoring role in partnership with Reef Check Malaysia, gained ground in our RSPO training workshops and enlarged our network of opportunities through the Responsible Tourism Awards which made a victorious wrap up for the year. As we draw to the close of 2009, we look forward to a new and exciting chapter next year.

But we will need your help. We are looking for like-minded partners - partners whom we can grow with to make a positive impact on our environment and local communities. We welcome you to be part of this journey.

Wild Asia needs a home

We need a new place that we can call home, but not just any kind of home. Our vision is to make our home a knowledge-sharing space; a space where we can interact with people, share ideas and host training sessions.

If you have an available space that you can rent or share with us, do let us know. In return, you can access Wild Asia's resource bank - its people, network, information centre and multi-media library.

Wild Asia is looking for heroes!

We will be launching a new series called Wild Asia Heroes next year. Each month, we will highlight the extraordinary work of an individual, a community or a business who are working with little recognition to protect the environment and empower local communities. We want to help channel funds to these projects, and in turn, hope that their stories will inspire others to action.

You can help by nominating the heroes in your community and becoming our sponsor in this project.

Wild Asia wants to create new business leaders

Wild Asia wants to nurture a new breed of managers - managers who are inspired to create a change in the businesses that they operate. Next year, we plan to initiate our "Leaders in Destinations" training programme for responsible tourism professionals, and "Biodiversity for Busy Managers" for plantation managers.

Help us to build this into a full-fledge programme that will inspire a new breed of business leaders.

Wild Asia wants to help communities

Wild Asia wants to help local communities be part of our natural corridor initiative. We want to work with them to build a network of nurseries, growing indigenous forest trees. These trees, germinating in nurseries at the community level, will eventually grow to become forest links creating a network of natural corridors across Malaysia.

We want to stimulate the sharing of local knowledge at the grassroots, and on our part, offer technical knowledge like tree planting techniques, monitoring and GPS system. We're looking for potential seedling sponsors and communities to be willing partners.

Wild Asia wants to help schools

Wild Asia wants to work with schools to nurture environmentally-conscious children - kids who are able to think for themselves, explore ideas and share with others.

We have created pilot modules that are ready to be launched in schools in Klang Valley. We want to bring together thinkers and educators to develop new curriculums that will create a new generation of earth loving, eco-minded kids.

Why Wild Asia?

Wild Asia aspires to be the leading catalyst of change by engaging people to speak up, take action and create a natural, healthy and just environment for all. We are a small team, so we want to invite partners who share our vision, individuals, groups or companies, to work with us in our next phase of growth.

The time could not be any more perfect - after all, 2010 is the Year of the Tiger, a symbol of courage, strength and power. Join us in that spirit to make it happen.

Best,

Dr Reza, Deborah, Gonthong and the rest of our team.
